Croque Monsieur

Butter-3 tbspn

All purpose flour- 3 tbspn

Milk-1 cup

Bay Leaf-1

Sandwich Bread-5 slices

Ham-4 slices

Cheese-150 g-ungrated

Cheese-grated-1/2 cup

Fresh Chives-2 tspn

Salt- to suit individual taste

Pepper- to suit individual taste


Melt butter in a saucepan over medium flame. Now, add the all-purpose flour and stir for a minute. Add bayleaf and increase the flame to high and keep stirring so that no lumps remain. Keep whisking for about 2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Add salt and pepper to the sauce and keep the saucepan aside. Take sandwich bread, and top each slice with ham and cheese. Apply melted butter to both sides of the bread slice. Toast until golden brown. Top it with white sauce and cheese. Grill until the cheese turns brown. You may want to try adding mayonnaise and tomatoes. Serve hot.
